Where does the scripture state JESUS is pointing at Peter in Matthew 16:18? I believe he’s pointing to himself stating “You are Peter and I’m the Rock.” Jesus is the Rock that the Builders Rejected and still reject today. He might give Peter spiritual keys to the kingdom for prayer and to bind and loose, but only Jesus is qualified to be the Rock. In fact, Jesus rebukes Satan out of Peter just verses later in Matthew 16:23 and according to Mark 3:24-26 a kingdom can’t stand if it’s divided against itself. If Satan can jump into Peter, he can’t be the foundation of the Church. Also after this chapter Jesus proclaims he knows one of the disciples will deny him three times and it’s Peter? Why would Jesus build his church on someone who denies him and state he’d deny a person to God if they denied him. I truly feel that if Satan can jump into Peter the church foundation would never stand? The only one qualified to be the foundation of the church is Jesus Christ and he’s the “Cornerstone the Builders Rejected” and still Reject to this day. The Church is a body of believers connected to Jesus Christ by spirit. Jesus Christ is the foundation and the only one qualified to be the foundation that overcomes the Kingdom of Darkness.
Matthew 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Matthew 16: 23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
They accused JESUS of having a demon? And Jesus states a house can’t stand if he had a demon in him. That would be like the Holy Ghost jumping into Satan, the Kingdom of darkness would not be able to stand either.
